Parts of Scotland have been braced for a day of heavy rain.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for downpours during much of today (Friday) and overnight, with windy conditions also expected.

Difficult travel conditions and possible flooding have also been included in the warning.

Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Highland, Argyll and Bute, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, and West Dunbartonshire are all covered by the alert.

The warning, issued by the Met Office, explains: “Rain is expected to be persistent, and heavy at times, during much of Friday and overnight, before slowly easing later on Saturday. 40 to 60mm of rain is expected to build up quite widely, with in excess of 100mm over a few mountains.

“Rain will be accompanied by windy conditions, especially Friday daytime, when gusts will reach 40 to 50 mph around coasts and hills.”
