Nessie dragged into US election, unavailable to respond to Trump Jr.

The son of U.S. President Donald Trump sullied Nessie’s good name at the Republican National Convention.

Nessie isn’t one for the spotlight, but the elusive monster may need to call a press conference on the banks of Loch Ness to defend her good name against Donald Trump Jr.

The son of US President Donald Trump invoked Nessie at the Republican National Convention, suggesting Trump’s Democratic opponent and former U.S. vice-president was the Washington-equivalent of the Highland monster.

“Joe Biden is basically the Loch Ness monster of the swamp,” he told the crowd.

“He’s been lurking around in there. He sticks his head up every now and then to run for president, then he disappears and doesn’t do much in between.”

The comment caused ‘Loch Ness monster’ to trend on Twitter, as users from around the world piled on to defend Nessie’s honour.

“Why is Donald Trump Jr. trying to demonise the Loch Ness monster?” one user asked. “In Scotland, or so I’m told, she is considered to be a fairly benign creature that people just really want to see.”

The official Loch Ness Sighting Register shows there have been 1121 sightings recorded since record-keeping began.

The most recent was July 8, when “forestry worker Ross MacAulay, who has lived all his life around Loch Ness and did not believe in Nessie, was driving just outside Fort Augustus when he glanced at the water, about 200ft below the road. He took a video and some pictures of something unexplained in the water”.

Nessie was not available for comment.
