Holidaymakers are now able to travel to a number of new destinations without the need to self-isolate on their return to Scotland.

From 4 am on Wednesday, Malta, Madeira and the Balearics are amongst those to be added to the green travel list.

It means that travellers are not required to isolate when they arrive back in Scotland, but will be require to take a PCR test on day two.

Other additions to the expanded green travel list include Antigua, Barbados, and Bermuda.

The changes were announced by the Scottish Government last week, who said that there would be “close monitoring” of the position in the Balearics ahead of the next review point.

The full list of countries being added to the green travel list from Wednesday are: Malta, Madeira and the Balearic islands; the Caribbean nations of Antigua, Barbados, Barbuda, Dominica and Grenada; and the UK overseas territories of Anguilla and Montserrat, Bermuda, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Pitcairn, and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Haiti, Mongolia, Tunisia and Uganda have been added to the red travel list.

It means that travellers from those countries are required to enter managed isolation for a period of 10 days on their return to Scotland.

The latest update to travel restrictions come after one death and 3118 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Scotland.

Speaking at the Scottish Government’s coronavirus briefing on Tuesday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called for “renewed care and vigilance” amid the rise in case numbers.

“This is a critical moment, and I really can’t stress that enough,” said the First Minister.

“Over the next few weeks, it demands renewed care and vigilance from all of us.”
