First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has reiterated to the public ‘we will get through’ coronavirus as she thanked them for following health advice during the outbreak.

The death of Scotland’s third patient diagnosed with Covid-19 was announced on Wednesday, while Sturgeon has confirmed Scotland’s schools and nurseries will close from Friday.

But Sturgeon said on social media on Wednesday night: “I wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you to everyone doing the right thing just now – following health advice, looking out for others and showing kindness.

“These are difficult days and we face a big challenge – but, together, we will get through it.”

Advice for those showing symptoms – such as a new continuous cough, fever or high temperature – is to stay at home.

People should phone their GP if their symptoms are severe, worsen during isolation or if they have shortness of breath as well.

Those over 70 and those who have high risk and underlying health conditions are being advised to stay at home as much as possible and significantly reduce unnecessary social contact.

Additionally, regular hand washing with warm water for a period of 20 seconds is considered key and reducing your social contact overall has been instructed.
