Platinum Jubilee weekend promises sun and soaring temperatures across Scotland

With June 1 came the first day of Meteorological Summer, and the weather is certainly reflecting that.

The Jubilee bank holiday weekend means a lot of us are looking forward to some extra days off – and it’s good news indeed for those planning street parties, barbeques or any outdoor events.

After an unsettled, wet and cool start to the week where we were only seeing temperatures reaching the mid-teens, things are improving and thanks to a large area of high pressure moving in from the north west it means we’ll have largely fine, dry and sunny conditions right the way through the weekend – and high temperatures.

For Thursday, a frontal system tries to push in from the west, but the high pressure does it’s best to deflect it away from Scotland – it will bring some cloud and patchy rain to the Western Isles, Skye, Argyll and Bute and some western mainland coasts – but elsewhere it’s a day of sunshine and scattered isolated showers.

Friday will be a dry day, and warm, particularly in the west where temperatures could climb to 19C – a little cooler in the east thanks to an offshore breeze, but still sunny across the board.

It’s a fantastic day to come on Saturday – Scotland will be the best spot in the whole of the UK in terms of sunshine and dry weather, as further south across England, Wales and Northern Ireland there will be increasing amounts of cloud and the chance of some heavy showers.

By Sunday we do see just a little bit more in the way of cloud, but still a dry and bright day to come and the chance we could see our warmest day of the year so far – the temperature to beat is 21C.

Add to this the fact that pollen levels are still low across Scotland, as we are just on the cusp of the grass pollen season starting, it means hay fever sufferers can get out and enjoy the celebrations too.
