Police in Ireland have identified a man with a Saltire tattoo who is fighting for his life after an attack in Dublin following an appeal.

Two men have been arrested following the alleged assault at Cope Street in Dublin 2 on Wednesday at around 12:30am.

The male victim, who has not been named, is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

Police previously released an image of his tattoo, which has the words ‘Ceol is Beatha’, meaning ‘music is life’ in Gaelic on his right forearm.

Gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, in connection with the incident.

The pair are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in Dublin.

A Gardia statement readL “We have identified the man allegedly assaulted at Cope Street, Dublin 2, on Wednesday February 18, 2026, at around 12:30am.

“We would like to thanks the public for their assistance.

“He remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

“On Friday evening, Gardaí arrested two men in connection with this investigation.

“The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in Dublin.

“Anyone with information about this alleged assault is asked to contact us at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
