The public have been warned to be aware of potential scams relating to the Covid-19 booster jag.

Scammers throughout the country have been using various tactics including text messages, phone calls, fake websites and in person visits to try and trick people into making a payment or handing over personal information.

Bogus ‘NHS workers’ have even turned up unannounced at the homes of potential victims and told them they were there to administer the vaccine.

Police in Edinburgh issued the warning on Tuesday following the incidents.

The public have been reminded that the vaccine is free, the NHS will never ask for payment or bank details or arrive unannounced at your home address.

The health service will also never ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as passport of driving license.

A statement released by the force said: “Beware of potential scams related to Covid-19 booster jabs.

“Criminals have used text messages, phone calls, fake websites and in person visits to try and trick people into making a payment or handing over their financial information.”
