The family of a Scottish army medic killed in Iraq are urging the public to light candles in her memory on Tuesday evening.
Lance Corporal Brodie Gillon, from Ayr, died alongside two US troops in a rocket attack on the Camp Taji military base on March 11.
The 26-year-old, who was also a civilian physio, was given full military honours after being repatriated last week.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, LCpl Gillon is not to receive a full military funeral, with her body being laid to rest in a private service instead.
Brodie’s family are now encouraging candles to be lit in her memory at 9pm on Tuesday as a means to pay tribute.
Fern Gillon said: “Our hearts are irreparably broken at the loss of our beautiful, bright and fun-loving Brodie.
“When circumstances dictate we will hold a memorial which pays a fitting tribute to all she was, but for now we ask you to keep her in your thoughts and care for each other the way she cared for all.”
