The Queen says the entire Royal Family is “saddened” after learning “how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan”.
In a statement issued on her behalf by Buckingham Palace, she also said the issues raised in the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, particularly that of race, are “concerning”.
The Duchess of Sussex has told of how she felt suicidal during her time living with the Royal Family.
In the interview, broadcast on STV on Monday evening, Meghan said there were times that she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore”.
The Duchess also told of how a member of Harry’s family raised concerns about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be before his birth.
She also spoke of her battle with loneliness and worries that Archie would be vulnerable if he was denied a title – leaving him without protection.
The Queen said in her statement: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.
“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
