The Queen’s coffin arrived at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening after leaving Scotland for the final time.
Shortly before 6pm, the Royal Air Force plane carrying the late monarch’s coffin took off from Edinburgh Airport.
After touching down at RAF Northolt in west London, the state hearse carrying the coffin along with a motorcade slowly travelled along the A40 as thousands lined the streets to pay their final respects to the Queen.
Crowds gathered at Buckingham Palace for the arrival of the Queen’s coffin where her grandchildren were amongst members of the royal family paying their respects to the late monarch.
Standing at the palace’s grand entrance, the new King and his Queen Consort were surrounded by Queen Elizabeth II’s children and grandchildren and their partners, including the Prince and Princess of Wales and Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
There were cheers from the crowd as the hearse passed those waiting outside the palace.
The Queen’s coffin will lie at rest overnight in Buckingham Palace’s Bow Room before it is moved to Westminster Hall on Wednesday.
The coffin will lie in state there for four days ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday, September 19.
