In pictures: Crowds line streets to pay respects to Queen

Thousands have lined the streets to pay their final respects to the former monarch on her journey through Scotland.

The Queen’s coffin has arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse after leaving Balmoral for the monarch’s final journey through Scotland.

As the royal convoy travelled down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the crowd fell silent in respect for the Queen as her coffin passed. Moments later, a round of applause and cheers broke out across the crowd.

Flanked by immediate family members in the cortege, the hearse carrying the former monarch was greeted by crowds as it passed through towns and villages near the Royal estate.

The coffin was draped in the Royal Standard of Scotland and topped with a wreath made up of flowers from the Balmoral estate including sweet peas – one of the Queen’s favourite flowers – dahlias, phlox, white heather and pine fir.

The convoy arrived in Edinburgh just after 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
