Scotland has recorded 6734 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Official figures published by the Scottish Government showed there were zero new reported deaths.

A total of 516 people were in hospital as of Sunday with recently confirmed Covid, with 38 people in intensive care.

Of the 49,213 new tests for Covid that reported results, 15.2% of those were positive.

Just over 4.3 million have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose, whilst almost four million have had their second dose.

Meanwhile, just over 2.5 million have received their third dose, or booster.

Earlier, Scotland’s national clinical director Jason Leitch insisted that schools should stay open.

Speaking to STV News, Leitch indicated that schools should be the “last thing to close and the first thing to open”.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has already urged people across the country to minimise contact with other households over the festive period.

Guidance has also been issued to businesses in order to help reduce the spread of the Omicron variant.
