Scotland has celebrated its hottest day of the year so far as soaring temperatures pushed the mercury over 24C for parts of the country.
Aboyne in Aberdeenshire basked in the sunshine as it seized the crown from the Highland village of Drumnadrochit for Scotland’s warmest location of 2022.
Met Office forecasters recorded temperatures of 24.3C in the village as Scots flocked to beaches, parks and outdoor spaces to make the most of the balmy conditions.
Parts of the country could experience highs of over 20 later in the week before conditions cool slightly heading into the weekend, although cloud is set to push in from the West this evening.
Both Edinburgh and Glasgow saw temperatures hit 22C on Monday afternoon, while those in the North experienced the best of the tropical weather.
Northern Ireland also experienced its hottest day of the year so far, according to forecasters.
Forecasters said they expected the pleasant conditions to last until the end of Tuesday, though things are to become slightly unsettled thereafter.
A Met Office forecast read: “Wednesday and Thursday will be dry with some sunny spells, and becoming warm or very warm.
“Then more unsettled on Friday with the chance of rain or showers across much of the country.”
