Scotland set for third summer heatwave with highs of 29C

Temperatures are set to be as much as 12 degrees above average,

It is remaining a warm week ahead for Scotland, with heatwave criteria being met in several locations by Wednesday and Thursday.

The reason for this is that at the moment we have high pressure out to the east of us and low pressure to the south west, putting us in a southerly airflow. We’re dragging in warmer air from the continent.

Currently, parts of France and Spain are experiencing extremely high temperatures, which have led to a few wildfires in France. That heat is being drawn up across the UK this week.

Most of the very high temperatures (33C-35C) will be seen across parts of central and southern England, but it will still be very warm in Scotland with lots of bright and dry weather around until Thursday.

In order to reach a heatwave, we need to see 25C and above for three consecutive days, and Dyce has already recorded 25.1C on Monday.

We are likely to reach that again today, meaning by tomorrow we can say we have reached a heatwave in Scotland.

The average temperature for Scotland at this time of year is 17C, so it’s incredible that we will be seeing temperatures in some parts of the country reaching as high as 12C above that average over the next couple of days.

This will be our third heatwave of the summer, so we’ve been quite lucky this year despite suffering an August storm and our usual Scottish summer conditions. The rest of this week is generally looking good with the settled conditions continuing into the weekend.
