Scotland set to be hotter than Barcelona as temperatures reach 24C

As high pressure builds across the country, parts of Scotland could experience highs of 24C over the weekend.

Parts of Scotland are set to be hotter than Spain this weekend, as forecasts suggest areas could see highs of 24C.

Following days of high pressure, Scotland is now in a southerly airflow which is bringing in warm air from the south.

Temperatures are likely to peak on Saturday, with temperatures forecast to hit between 22C to 23C in the central belt, with highs of 24C in the Highlands.

With Barcelona in Spain expected to reach highs of 21C, Scotland is set to be the place for sunseekers this weekend.

However UV levels will rise to moderate to high levels, and an increase in pollen is also expected, so Scots have been advised to take weather precautions as necessary.

Insight Philip Petrie STV weather presenter

Well, over the past couple of days, high pressure has been building in across the country, and that’s putting us into a southerly air flow. So, we’ve been dragging in that warm air from the south, helping to lift the temperatures day by day.

The temperatures will peak tomorrow, that’s when we’ll be seeing highs of 22C across the southeast, 23C for the likes of Glasgow and further north, highs of 24C in Altnaharra.

At the moment, it is forecast Barcelona will hit highs of 21C. So yes, we can say that we’ll be warmer than Barcelona.

I’m going to put my weather man hat on, though, and remind folks that with the sunshine and the warmth, the UV levels will be rising to moderate to high levels and the pollen will be increasing too, with the warm and the dry conditions.

So, if you are heading out and about, do take the proper precautions, but overall, enjoy the sunshine.
