Scotland is to see even warmer temperatures with a risk of thunderstorms over the weekend.
It follows weeks of warm and dry weather across the west of the country.
Parts of the country are predicted to be hotter than Marbella, Ibiza and Tenerife in the coming days, with temperatures potentially soaring to 28C.
The weather will also turn more humid meaning thundery showers and lightning.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms stretching across much of the west coast, central belt and the Highlands.
From 12pm until 9pm on Sunday, the alert warns of flooding, damage to buildings, lightning strikes and delay to travel.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has upgraded an alert for hot weather in five regions of England as warnings have also been issued for thunderstorms south of the border over the weekend.
On Thursday, First Minister Humza Yousaf warned water shortages across Scotland could become more likely amid increasingly regular dry conditions.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) said that, since very little rain is forecast for the next few weeks, the situation is expected to escalate quickly.
While many places in Scotland will remain dry, STV meteorologist Sean Batty said, others could face a deluge – but this probably won’t affect water scarcity.
“After weeks of warm weather in the west of the country, things are going to get even warmer in the next couple of days, and also a lot more humid,” he said.
“Portugal and Spain have seen some very unsettled conditions in the last week and some of that gets thrown our way in the next few days.
“As well as the more humid conditions there will be the risk of some thundery showers, this of course will help to water the gardens, but is unlikely to change the water scarcity issues some parts of the country are starting to see.
“The other thing with thundery showers, is they’re very sporadic and this means that probably quite a few areas will see no rain at all, while somewhere several miles away may get a deluge.
“While temperatures have been hitting the low, and occasionally, mid 20s, this weekend I think some spots could reach the high 20s.
“Temperatures of 28C could be achieved in the north Highlands and the Moray coast. This far exceeds the high so far this year of 24.1C in Renfrewshire last Sunday.”
