Before kick-off, manager Steve Clarke hailed the “brilliant atmosphere” at a noisy Hampden despite an attendance of just 12,000.

Kieran Tierney is missing the game through injury, while Callum McGregor is on the bench for Scotland.

Southampton striker Che Adams also started as a sub, with Liam Cooper and Stuart Armstrong among those in the 11.

The starting team was: Marshall, O’Donnell, Robertson, Cooper, Hanley, Hendry, McGinn, McTominay, Armstrong, Christie, Dykes.

Clarke said he was hopeful Arsenal defender Tierney would be ready for Friday’s clash with England.

“He’s had a niggle during the week,” he told the BBC. “He’s not ready for this one, but hopefully the next one.”

12,000 fans are inside the national stadium, with another 6000 at the official fanzone at Glasgow Green.

Clarke said: “It’s brilliant, a great atmosphere in the stadium. It’s fantastic to have the Tartan Army back, in small numbers, but I am sure they are going to make a hell of a noise.”

Scotland also face England and Croatia in Group D, with both matches live on STV and the STV Player.

Due to the competition’s format, just one win might be enough to reach the knockout stages for the first time in Scotland’s history.
