Five flood alerts have been issued across Scotland as two new yellow weather warnings for heavy rain come into force.
The Met Office has placed sections of the east, north east and south west of the country under the warning which could see travel disruption for Scots commuting on Thursday.
The yellow warning for the south west came into effect at 12am on Thursday and will end at 6pm.
That will cover Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire.
The warning for the east and north east was issued at 6am and won’t be lifted until Friday morning at 12am.
The regions under that warning include Angus, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Fife and Perth and Kinross.
Forecasters have warned that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads. Flooding could also hit homes and businesses.
Motorists are urged to take care amid spray and flooding that could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued flood alerts in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, Dumfries and Galloway, Dundee and Angus, Fife and Tayside.
The Met Office said the wet weather could cause power cuts while delays to buses and trains are possible.
“Heavy rain is expected to arrive early on Thursday and then persist for much of the day,” the weather agency said.
“Whilst some snow is expected to fall initially over higher ground, this should tend to turn to rain which will then steadily thaw lying snow.
“30-50 mm of rain is likely to fall widely with potential peaks over hills of 80-110 mm. Rain will be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds.
“Further heavy rain is possible in similar areas on Friday but this aspect is currently unclear.”
In the south west, forecasters warned there is a “small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life”.
