Families across the country had an extra special start to 2025 as they welcomed their bundles of joy into the world.

Families across the country have welcomed the first babies of 2025 after a busy night in Scotland’s maternity wards.

Baby Alexander arrived early at Simpson’s Centre for Reproductive Health at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at 00.41am on Wednesday.

Alexander was born to proud parents Katia Glover and Jonny Glover from Edinburgh, tipping the scales at 2.35kg (5lbs 17oz).

Mum Katia said: “We are over the moon with the arrival of our baby boy!

“He came a little early, which was a lovely surprise. Jonny is still away working abroad, but we can’t wait for him to meet his son.”

It was a busy night in Ayrshire. Four newborn babies arrived between 11.30pm and midnight, with little Caleb Guthrie becoming the area’s first arrival of 2025.

Caleb is the first child of Jade and John Guthrie from Kilwinning and weighs 3.8kg (8lbs 3oz).

Three other Ayrshire families also welcomed new additions in the early hours of January 1.

At 2:44am, Hayley Barclay and Rhian Baird from Irvine welcomed a son (yet to be named). Weighing 3.9kg (8lbs 7oz), he is a little brother to sister Riley, aged two.

Next to arrive was a (yet to be named) baby boy for Jane and Toby Lindo from Fairlie, who made his way into the world at 3.22am weighing 3.5kg (7lbs 8oz).

Kilmarnock family Sophie Leigh Wallace and Stephanie Traynor welcomed their firstborn, a son named Kai Ian Oscar Traynor, at 4:55am, weighing 3.3kg (7lbs 4oz).

Meanwhile, Archie McGibbon arrived at three minutes past midnight at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow – weighing in at 4.14kg (9lbs 2oz) to mum Amy and partner Nathan Perry.

The first baby to be born in Moray made an appearance at 7.31am at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Baby Sealey Walter is little brother to Hugo, Altaya and Bodhi, and his mum and dad can’t wait to bring him home.

Sealey weighed 8lbs 11oz, just like two of his siblings. His mum, EmmyLou, said: “I really wanted to labour here, and the midwives have been amazing.”

In Aberdeen, baby Gabriel was welcomed into the world at 1.47am at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital to proud parents Charlotte and Charlie.

Gabriel was the first baby in Grampian and is looking forward to meeting his big brother Charlie.

Gabriel weighed 9lb 4oz and his mum said she was ecstatic, especially because he was due on December 20 but he has now made the beginning of 2025 even more special.

Charlotte said: “The midwives were excellent, so patient.”

It was all systems go in the Forth Valley, with several arrivals throughout the first hours of 2025.

Kelsey McGinn and partner Declan, from Stirling, welcomed their first baby girl at 3.52am, weighing 7lbs 8oz.

Baby boy Jamie arrived at 4.48am to proud parents Charlene and Ryan. He is looking forward to meeting his big brother Findlay.

Meanwhile, Jade Hampton and Stephen welcomed beautiful Maeve, weighing 8lbs 3oz, at 12.12pm on New Year’s Day.
