Those travelling by train between Aberdeen and the central belt have been warned that a signal fault will disrupt their journey.

Scotrail confirmed that all lines through Arbroath station have been closed due to the issue.

Services between Aberdeen and Edinburgh will be delayed or revised as a result. Trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Aberdeen have also been affected.

Services between Dundee and Arbroath could be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Rail tickets are being accepted on local bus routes with Stagecoach East Scotland Buses between Dundee and Montrose in both directions until 1pm.

Ticket acceptance is also in place with Citylink between Aberdeen and Dundee in both directions.

A Scotrail spokesperson said: “Due to a fault with the signalling system at Arbroath all lines are closed.

“For safety reasons services will be unable to run through this station. Train services between Dundee and Arbroath will be cancelled, delayed or revised. Train services between Edinburgh and Aberdeen will be delayed or revised.

“Train services between Glasgow Queen Street and Aberdeen will be delayed or revised.”
