Scottish couple appear in court in Australia after 107kg of ketamine seized

A Scottish couple have appeared in court in Australia after more than 100kg of ketamine was allegedly seized in a raid.

Detectives raided a property in Artarmon, a lower North Shore of Sydney suburb, amid an investigation into the supply of drugs in the area on June 26.

During the search, police allegedly found two kilograms of drugs believed to be ketamine, scales, disposable gloves, clear resealable bags with white crystallised residue, and items of luggage.

Three days later, police executed a warrant at a hotel room in north Sydney.

Demi McDaid, 23, and Jack Farrelly, 30, both from Scotland, were found inside and arrested.

Officers seized a number of mobile phones, just over $2,000 in cash, and documents police believe are drug ledgers.

A car, which was allegedly rented by Farrelly, was also found to contain around 105kg of drugs, believed to be ketamine.

The couple were charged with supplying a prohibited drug in an amount larger than an indictable quantity and less than a commercial quantity, and supplying a prohibited drug in an amount larger than or equal to a large commercial quantity.

Detectives claim McDaid and Farrelly travelled to the country for the sole purpose of distributing and supplying drugs.

On June 30, they appeared at Manly Local Court and were refused bail.

The couple appeared at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on Tuesday before Judge M Greenwood, and both were refused bail.

They are expected to appear in court again within the next two months.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting two British nationals detained in Australia and are in contact with the local authorities.”
