Spring will be in the air this Easter as we look forward to lighter evenings and even some warmer conditions.

For the last few weeks we’ve been gaining about four and a half minutes of daylight each day, and with this added on to the clocks springing forward this Sunday that means it won’t be completely dark until just after 8pm – a big change from around 6pm at the start of March.

The weather will also get a little better as the weekend goes on with fewer and fewer showers, especially in the north of the country. Good Friday should be largely dry in the far north of the mainland and for the Inner Hebrides, but some showers will develop in central and eastern areas. Conditions will be similar on Saturday but there should be some decent spells of pleasant sunshine in-between.

The best day will be Easter Sunday with plenty of dry and bright weather and we could see highs of around 14-15C for the likes of Glasgow, Paisley, Greenock, Troon and Ayr. This will be one of the warmest days in these areas so far this year. There’s a risk of some haar developing along the Fife, Angus and Aberdeenshire coast which will keep it cooler here with highs around 8C. So it looks like a great day for Easter egg hunts and egg-rolling.

Easter Monday will see more cloud arriving in the north and east of the country along with cooler air, but it should remain largely dry. The west will see the best of the sunshine, and once again the highest temperatures with highs of 12C.

So while it’s not as warm as previous Easters, especially the later ones, like 2019 when it fell on the 21 April. Temperatures on that day hit a sweltering 20C in Glasgow, 22C in Ayrshire and the Lothians and a peak of 23C in Fife.

Further into April the weather looks as if it will remain changeable, but Scotland may see more settled conditions compared to England and Wales, but also colder conditions with air coming in from the north-east.
