Seven fun family activities to enjoy over Easter weekend

Aside from eating chocolate eggs and enjoying a long weekend off work, there are plenty of things to do this Easter weekend in Scotland.

And while Scots may not see record high temperatures, warm weather is predicted for some parts of the country on Saturday.

If you’re stuck for something to do over the weekend, why not have a look at our round up of some of the Easter events taking place across Scotland.

Easter Egg Run

Being in hospital is no fun at any time of the year, but a group of bikers are aiming to brighten up Easter for children receiving treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Donning their best fancy dress, the bikers will drive through the streets of Glasgow before passing by the hospital to brighten patients day.

The parade will begin on Sunday at 11am at Greendyke Street then onto Broomielaw before crossing the Squinty Bridge. Bikers will then head up Govan Road and bypass the front of the Royal Hospital for Children and then end the parade at Braehead Shopping Centre.

If you can’t watch the parade in the city, Braehead Shopping Centre will be holding a fun day from 11am and will have live entertainment and a glitter station to entertain kids.

Musselburgh Racecourse

If you fancy a day at the races, Musselburgh Racecourse will open its gates for its first Easter Saturday race day in three years.

Children under the age of 17 will go free and there is plenty to entertain all ages, from face painting to fairground rides.

National Trust for Scotland

NTS are bringing back their popular Easter Egg Trails this weekend at more than 20 of the organisation’s sites across the country.

Children will have to collect clues in a bid to solve the puzzle in order to unlock a sweet reward.

Each trail is different and allows families the chance to explore properties and learn fascinating stories from times gone by.

Some properties will also be hosting Easter fun days, with Brodick Castle, Garden and Country Park offering egg decorating, wacky races, a duck derby and an Easter bonnet parade on Sunday from 11am.

Glencoe Visitor Centre will also have face painting on offer as well as traditional springtime Creel House Craft activities.

Peter Rabbit Easter breakfast

To celebrate literature’s most beloved bunny turning 120, Dobbies gardens centres across the country will be hosting special Peter Rabbit-themed Easter breakfasts.

Children and adults can choose from a set menu of breakfast favourites and little ones will be given a Peter Rabbit gift afterwards.

Peter Rabbit-themed activities will also be available in store, however tickets must be booked in advance.

Family silent disco

Fun for all the family, Saturday’s silent disco at Dobbie Hall in Larbert is aimed at children aged four and up and will play the best kid-friendly pop and dance songs.

With a tuck shop and face painting station, the event organised by Silent Knights promises to be great fun for all ages.

Hopetoun House

The South Queensferry country house is hosting a family fun day on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday from 12pm until 4pm.

Children can join in with treasure hunts and competitions, with Hopetoun adding that activities are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Easter Extravaganza at Traquair House

If your children fancy a challenge, then why not take a trip to Tranquair House which boasts the biggest Easter egg hunt in the Scottish Borders, with 5000 mini eggs to be discovered in the grounds.

As well as the egg hunts, which will take place in the hedged maze, there will be an egg scramble for younger children and plenty of Easter themed activities to enjoy.

Candy the stiltwalker will also be found in the grounds to round off this fun-filled family day out, which will take place on Easter Sunday from 11am until 5pm.
