Another 60 people have died with coronavirus, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

Speaking at the Scottish Government’s daily press briefing on Thursday, the First Minister said it took the death toll among confirmed Covid-19 cases to 1475.

But counting suspected cases, produced on a weekly basis by National Records of Scotland (NRS), suggests the most up-to-date total is now around 2500.

The First Minister said total confirmed cases of the virus in Scotland have risen by 319 in the last 24 hours to stand at 11,353.

She said the overall number of people in hospital either with Covid-19 or believed to have Covid-19 has risen by 21 overnight to 1748.

But the volume of patients in intensive care with confirmed or suspected coronavirus has declined again by five to 109 – the lowest figure recorded since March 30.

The FM also revealed a total of 2538 patients who had coronavirus have been able to leave hospital since the outbreak began.

The NRS figures published this week, which run up to Sunday, April 26, show 2272 deaths where confirmed or suspected Covid-19 was cited on the death certificate.

The daily figures on confirmed cases reveal another 226 people have died so far this week, indicating a combined death toll of at least 2498.
