Temperatures dropped to -13.9C in Scotland overnight following days of freezing weather and heavy snow.

Kinbrace in the Highlands fell to -13.9C – the lowest overnight temperature in the UK.

It comes after temperatures plummeted to -18.9C on Saturday morning in Altnaharra, which was the UK’s coldest January night in 15 years.

On Sunday, the big freeze is set to finally thaw after days of heavy snow and ice in parts of Scotland which have seen schools and nurseries forced to remain shut despite the end of the Christmas break.
