Temperatures across Scotland might not hit heatwave highs this Easter weekend, according to weather expert Sean Batty.

STV’s meteorologist said Inverness could be a top spot with temperatures reaching 18-19C on Saturday.

Glasgow and Edinburgh could also see around 17C.

Rain will then wash in from the west on Easter Sunday and will continue east during the evening.

Easter Monday will then see sunshine and showers with temperatures around 10-13C.

The warmer weather is set to come from hot air blown 2000 miles from the Sahara Desert.

Good Friday is set to be the hottest day of the year so far down south, with the Met Office predicting highs of up to 23C in London, which would break the 20.8C record in March.

Sean said: “Easter is a funny old time of year.

“Remember 2019 when we sweltered through our warmest Easter weekend with temperatures hitting the mid-20s, but then the previous year we shivered through an extremely cold Easter.

“Of course Easter, unlike Christmas, moves from one year to the next, so I don’t tend to like ‘warmest’ or ‘coldest’ Easters on record as the date is not constant.

“Easter Sunday can fall anywhere from March 22 to April 25, and the later it is obviously increases the chances of a warm one.

“Even though this Easter could be considered a late one, it’s not going to be in the 20s.

“The word ‘heatwave’ has been used a lot in the last week, but I think that’s a bit of a push for this weekend.

“I reckon Inverness will be one of our top spots with temperatures possibly hitting 18-19C on Saturday, and around 17C in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

“The Aberdeenshire and Angus coast will stay on the cooler side with highs around 9C thanks to a slight onshore breeze, along with the usual haar risk.

“While Saturday looks mainly dry, Easter Sunday will see rain in the west which will move east during the evening and bring with it much fresher conditions.

“By Easter Monday we’ll be into sunshine and showers with temperatures back to around 10-13C.”
