Three men extradited from Scotland have admitted their involvement in the death of a Canadian restuarant owner over an ‘unpaid bill’.

Robert Evans, 25, his father, Robert Busby Evans, 47, and his uncle Barry Evans, 54, originally from Manchester, were extradited to Ontario last year over the death of Sharif Rahman.

The three men were said to have been on holiday in Canada when a dispute broke out over an unpaid $150 restaurant bill at The Curry House in Owen Sound on August 17, 2023.

It has been claimed that restaurant owner Mr Rahman followed the Evans family into the street outside his restaurant amid the dispute.

It is alleged Evans Jr physically assaulted the 44-year-old married father-of-one, who was found injured by a staff member.

He died a week later in hospital in London, Ontario.

According to news outlet CBS, Barry Evans drove his nephew 40 miles away following the incident to avoid his nephew being apprehended by law enforcement.

He is said to have told his nephew to “run, run” before letting him get in his car.

Evans Snr is then alleged to have booked his son a one-way flight back to the UK from Canada, whilst aware of the street attack.

The three men were arrested in Edinburgh and Dalkeith in 2024 in connection with an outstanding international warrant.

Canadian prosecutors then won a bid to extradite the three men to Ontario in the Scottish courts, after proving to Sheriff Julius Komorowski that the offences were ones recognised in Scots law.

Robert Evans Jr pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Rahman, while his father Robert Evans Snr and his uncle Barry Evans admitted being accessories after the fact.

Evans Jr also apologised to the family of Mr Rahman.

Evans Snr and Barry Evans were both sentenced to 21 months imprisonment on Friday, while Evans Jr will be sentenced on July 10.

It has been recommended by the Crown that Evans Jr is sentenced to more than three years in prison for the crime.
