Snow showers and ice are to bring difficult conditions and disruption as a yellow weather warning has been issued across the north and west of Scotland.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office and will come into force from 3pm on Tuesday until midday on Wednesday.
It follows a previous yellow weather alert for snow in Shetland, which was in place for 12 hours on Tuesday.
Forecasters have warned that some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times to be expected on Scotland’s roads, bus and train services.
Meanwhile there may be treacherous conditions on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths due to icy surfaces.
West Dunbartonshire, Argyll and Bute, Perth and Kinross, Stirling, the Highlands, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland are all covered by the warning.
The Met Office said snow showers, mainly affecting northern Scotland on Tuesday afternoon and evening, will extend further south to reach some other parts of western and central Scotland overnight into Wednesday morning.
Up to 3cm of snow is expected to fall widely across the warning area, while another 5cm to 8cm could fall over the north west Highlands.
