Tributes have been paid to a Scottish mountaineer who died suddenly on a Swiss mountain range.

Andy McGlinn, 50, died “doing what he loved ” on Sunday, February 22 on Mount Rigi.

The mountain, known as the “Queen of the Mountains” in Central Switzerland, is almost entirely surrounded by the water of Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz.

A fundraiser has been launched to support his family, who are travelling to Zurich to celebrate his life.

Police in the area confirmed crews responded to a medical emergency in Küssnacht am Rigi on February 22.

A tribute on the GoFundMe read: “Andy was a kind, generous, and humorous soul, always there for his friends and family, offering support, laughter, and love in every moment.

“His family, including those travelling from Scotland, are coming together to celebrate his life in Zurich.

“We are raising funds to support Rega who did everything they could to save him and also to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, and to support his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Any contribution, big or small, will help honour Andy’s memory and ease the burden on those he loved most.”
