A previously unseen picture of the Queen in her younger years has been released by the Royal Family following her private burial in Windsor on Monday evening.
The official Twitter account for the Royal Family released the previously unseen image at 9.30pm of the late monarch when she was younger, in what appeared to be against a backdrop of moorland in Scotland.
The young Queen can be seen donning a pair of sunglasses with a headscarf covering her brown hair as she walks uphill.
‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest’, the post from the Royal Family read, a nod to King Charles III tribute to his “darling mama” last week.
“In loving memory of Her Majesty The Queen. 1926 – 2022,” the tweet read.
The new picture came after Britain’s longest reigning monarch was buried alongside her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle in a private ceremony attended by family.
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II was marked across the country on Monday, September 19 as the Royal Family were joined by world leaders and foreign dignitaries to mark the life of the late monarch.
The Queen’s lying-in-state closed at 6.30am on Monday morning before her coffin was later taken on a grand military procession from the Palace of Westminster led by King Charles III.
Before the service began at 11am the Westminster Abbey tenor bell was tolled for 96 minutes to reflect each year of the Queen’s life.
