Temperatures are set to rise over the weekend before colder weather returns next week.
Scots have seen plenty of snow in the last few days and while there will still be some more around, lower levels are more likely to get rain.
Snow could linger, though, in higher parts of the country, with 5-10cm possible in areas above 200m.
Roads such as the A85, A9, A95 and A93 may face disruption overnight.
STV meteorologist Sean Batty said: “Over the next 24 hours it’s finally the milder air that wins the battle, but as this moves east, like yesterday’s rain, some of it will fall as snow.
“Snow is possible at lower levels for a time, which could bring temporary accumulations, but it will turn back to rain here as the night goes on and warmer air moves in from the west.”
In the south-east, there’s a risk of a short spell of freezing rain which could lead to icy conditions, most likely on higher roads such as the A7, A72 and A68.
By Saturday, most of the country will be back to warmer conditions with windy and showery weather. The Northern Isles and the Hebrides will see a spell of gales overnight and through Saturday.
Sean said: “While the milder weather wins out for the time being, we return to the tussle next week with cold air winning this time, which bring a return to wintry conditions in the north and east later next week.
“There’s a possibility that the colder air that comes in next week could linger into February and bring the most significant colder weather of winter, although we need to wait to see how things develop next week.”
