Plunging temperatures across the north of Scotland will see icy conditions leading to travel disruption with the Met Office issuing a weather warning.

A yellow alert for ice comes into force at 10pm on Wednesday and runs until at 10am on Thursday.

Forecasters warn that icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths could lead to disruption.

The Met Office added that some people could sustain injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The warning covers Aberdeenshire, Moray, The Highlands as well as Argyll and Bute.

Forecasters said showers on Wednesday night will bring the risk of icy patches.

They said that lower levels across northern Scotland could see a slight covering of snow.

It comes as five schools remain closed across four council areas after damage from Storm Eowyn.

Train travel also continues to face disruption and thousands of people faced a fifth day without power as a “colossal” recovery operation continued on Tuesday.
