Yellow weather warnings for ice and snow have been put in place for almost all of the country on Monday and Tuesday.
Met Office forecasters have issued four separate alerts for Boxing Day – three of which are scheduled to last into December 27.
Freezing conditions on Christmas Day saw parts of the country experience a white Christmas with snow flurries in the evening.
That is likely to continue for at least the next two days for some, with snow warnings covering as far South as Perth.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh and Glasgow have been cautioned to expect icy conditions until at least 10am on Tuesday.
Forecasters have urged those travelling home via road to be careful, with disruption already expected due to rail strikes.
No trains are scheduled to run in Scotland on Boxing Day, while those operating on December 27 will not start until after 07.15.
“Wintry showers will continue through this evening but as skies clear, patchy ice is expected to develop on some untreated surfaces,” the Met Office said.
“Cloud and rain will arrive from the west through Tuesday morning with temperatures starting to rise. Any snow will be reserved for higher ground with patchy and temporary accumulations of 1-2 cm above around 300 to 400 metres.”
Forecasters added: “Accumulating snow will be focused across Highland and Grampian overnight with a further 1-4 cm likely in places above around 150 metres, although patchy snow could accumulate at low levels especially in the far north.”
