Young footballers thrilled to see Scotland in major tournament

STV News spoke to youngsters about their hopes and predictions for Euro 2020.

Amidst all the excitement of Scotland reaching a major tournament for the first time in 23 years – it’s worth remembering there are many fans who will never have seen the team on such a big stage.

The country has a whole new generation who have grown up without the experience and are now excited to see what their national team can do.

STV News spoke to budding footballers from Stenhousemuir’s under-13s girls’ team about their hopes and predictions for Euro 2020.

One player said: “My head is telling me they are not going to get very far but my heart is telling me they’re going to win.”

Another added: “I think they could maybe do well – but we got into the Euros so that’s all that matters.”

Boys from United Glasgow Football Club are also gearing up to see how Scotland perform over the next few weeks.

Teenager Aidan Cannon said: “I’ve watched Scotland in a lot of games and we’ve just been so close – just to see it finally happen is amazing.”
