Yousaf faces FMQs as Government to ditch key climate target and puberty blockers paused

Later on Thursday, a statement is expected at Holyrood amid reports the Scottish Government is to ditch its 2030 climate change goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75%.

Humza Yousaf is answering FMQs as the prescription of puberty blockers has been paused for new patients in Scotland following a major review into gender care that found the medicine was “built on shaky foundations”.

Scotland’s health secretary welcomed the decision and lamented the “toxic” debate around gender issues.

It comes after First Minister Humza Yousaf said the Government will consider every recommendation of the Cass Review released last week.

Last month, the independent Climate Change Committee said Scotland’s 2030 goals were no longer credible.

It is understood the Government’s final goal of reaching “net-zero” by 2045 will remain.

Friends of the Earth said choosing to scrap the 2030 climate targets would be the “worst environmental decision in the history of the Scottish Parliament”.
