Aberdeen have announced that they have signed a pre-contract agreement to sign Motherwell captain Declan Gallagher.
The Scotland international’s current deal at Fir Park expires this summer and he will head north to join Stephen Glass’ Dons side.
Gallagher has been free to talk to other clubs during recent months and has opted to follow Celtic captain Scott Brown into what could be a new-look Aberdeen team.
Glass said that he was pleased to have signed the 30-year-old, pointing to his seven Scotland caps as evidence of the attributes he would bring to Pittodrie.
“We are delighted to be able to add someone of Declan’s quality to the first team,” he told Aberdeen’s website.
“He is one of the country’s top centre backs and played a prominent role in Scotland’s qualification for the Euro’s this summer.
“Declan was highly sought after and we beat off stiff competition to get him here, but it’s really encouraging to see he believes Aberdeen is the correct place for the next stage of his career and we are eagerly looking forward to working with him when he arrives in the summer.”
A Motherwell statement read: “We thank Declan for his contributions across the last two years. We will wish him well for the remainder of his career when he departs.”
