Aberdeen announce signing of A-League star Nicolas Milanovic

Aberdeen have announced the signing of Australian winger Nicolas Milanovic after agreeing a fee with Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Dons are playing an undisclosed sum for a player they say is a ‘highly-rated’ talent, and have secured his signing on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye in the A-League after scoring 12 goals, and setting up six in 25 league matches. He was also on the scoresheet when he played for the A-League All-Stars in their 8-0 friendly win over Newcastle United last season.

Now he’ll look to develop at Pittodrie and help the Dons as they pursue success in domestic competition and in Europe next season.

“Nicolas is an exciting, up-and-coming player who we believe has a very bright future ahead of him,” Dons boss Jimmy Thelin said.

“We’ve been tracking him for some time and with interest from other clubs in Europe, we’re delighted he has chosen to embark on the next stage of his career with Aberdeen.

“He’s made a real impact in the last 18 months in Australia, particularly with his goal contribution and assists and he’s been a consistent figure in the goal charts in the league.

“He’ll bring good physicality and as a left footed, right sided winger, he is the profile of a player we don’t currently have in the squad.

“His energy and creativity will add a different dimension, and we look forward to welcoming him to Aberdeen this summer.”

Milanovic, who will join up with his new teammates for pre-season training in late June, says he is eagerly anticipating the challenge of a new club and league.
