Aberdeen have been handed trips to Germany, Greece and Finland in the Europa Conference League groups stage.

The Pittodrie side will play Eintracht Frankfurt, PAOK and HJK Helsinki in the coming months as they look to progress in the competition.

Barry Robson’s side missed out on the Europa League after losing to BK Hacken in the play-off but have the consolation of a place in the third-tier tournament and there are exciting ties in store.

Eintracht Frankfurt finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season and defeated Levski Sofia 3-1 over two legs in the play-off.

The Dons will also play Greek side PAOK, who impressed against Hearts in the previous round, defeating Steven Naismith and Frankie McAvoy’s side 6-1 over in the play-off.

The group is completed by Finnish champions HJK. The Helsinki side have taken a long road to this stage, losing an early Champions League qualifier narrowly to Molde, then losing 2-1 home and away to Qarabag in the Europa League play-off.

Speaking after the defeat to Hacken, manager Robson said he was looking forward to the competition.

“It’s great that we are in the Conference League, it’s a great competition and we worked really hard last season to earn the chance to play in the group stages,” he said.

“It was a big effort from everybody connected with the club to do that.

“We’re frustrated tonight because we felt we could have gone into the Europa League but we’ll look forward to the Conference League when it starts next month.”
