An Aberdeen fan has been arrested in Germany after a pyrotechnic was thrown towards Eintracht Frankfurt supporters during the Europa Conference League match between the sides.
The incident occurred after Aberdeen had equalised in the Waldstadion and prompted an angry response from the Frankfurt fans, with further objects appearing to be thrown by the Aberdeen supporters.
A statement on the Polizei Frankfurt social media read: “During the first half of the game, one of the away fans threw a burning pyrotechnic object into the neighbouring home fan block. Fortunately, no one was injured.
“We caught the crime on video and arrested the suspect.”
An Aberdeen spokesperson said: “The club is deeply disappointed by the actions of a small minority of supporters during this evening’s match which threatens to tarnish the good reputation of Aberdeen FC and the vast majority of Dons supporters.
“The club will fully co-operate with UEFA and the relevant authorities during the course of any investigations.”
Eintracht Frankfurt went on to win the opening group game 2-1.
