Aberdeen have made contact with St Johnstone to discuss the possibility of Matty Kennedy joining the Pittodrie club during the January window.
The winger signed a pre-contract agreement with the Dons earlier this week, which means he will join up with his new team in the summer.
However, Aberdeen are keen for Kennedy to move this month and talks are currently ongoing between the two clubs.
The 25-year-old, who sat out of training on Friday, is not in the St Johnstone squad for their Scottish Cup clash with Morton on Saturday.
Upon signing his pre-contract in the north-east, Derek McInnes said Kennedy had shown “a real desire to join Aberdeen” when other options were available to him.
The player, who has netted five times this season, had attracted interest from Hearts.
One of his five goals was an equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen in November.
