Aberdeen have revealed that goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov will be out until the new year after suffering a hamstring injury at the weekend.
The Bulgarian stopper was taken off during the 1-1 draw with Hearts on Sunday and is expected to be on the sidelines for up to six weeks as a result.
The news comes on the eve of their top-of-the-table clash with Celtic at Pittodrie.
Mitov has been one of the Dons’ form players since joining from St Johnstone in the summer and helped the team go on a 16-game unbeaten run with a string of impressive performances.
His absence will represent a blow for the upcoming fixtures as they look to keep the-pace with Celtic at the top of the Premiership.
Brendan Rodgers’ league leaders arrive in the north east on Wednesday night with a four-point advantage over Jimmy Thelin’s side.
A win will put the Hoops seven clear with a game in hand, but Aberdeen are looking to protect their 100% winning home record this season and could cut the gap to a single point if they can get another Pittodrie victory on the board.
The Dons confirmed the Mitov injury news on Tuesday.
A statement from the club said: “We can today provide the following update on Dimitar Mitov.
“A scan has revealed the goalkeeper has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for up to six weeks.
“We wish Dimi a speedy recovery.”
