Aberdeen midfielder Dante Polvara is looking to make amends to travelling fans in Cyprus and help create happier memories in their latest Conference League adventure.
The Dons were thrashed 6-0 by AEK Athens two weeks ago and supporters are undergoing similar journeys to see their team take on AEK Larnaca.
Polvara apologised to fans in the Greek capital after the club’s record European defeat.
Polvara told RedTV: “Our away fans have always been so good and it seems that every year they get better.
“I always hear stories, people coming up to me and telling me about their away trips they planned with their dad or whoever, these great memories they have at some of these grounds in Europe.
“So we let ourselves down but we let them down too, because I know how great an opportunity it is to create lifetime memories.
“It was disappointing but we have a few other chances, so hopefully we can make it right.”
Polvara believes they have learned lessons from the defeat, which came amid a general improvement in form following a poor run at the start of the season.
Aberdeen have won three of their last four William Hill Premiership games to lift themselves off the bottom of the table.
Polvara said: “We have to be a bit more careful sometimes and protect ourselves first.
“We are figuring out all the press and stuff, and a new formation that we have been playing for maybe six weeks, figuring out how that works and where everyone needs to be.
“There’s more players coming into the squad after injuries so they are also having game time to figure that. We just need to be a bit more smarter and clever on the road.”
The Dons have yet to claim a point in the Conference League but Polvara has a decent European record to give him optimism, having netted three times in 10 matches during his spell at Pittodrie.
“I don’t know why, maybe it’s the style of football,” he said. “There’s something exciting about it.
“It’s always different because you don’t know how they’re going to be, they don’t really know how we’re going to be. It’s a lot harder to gauge tactically versus playing against a team we play against three or four times a year.
“That leaves a bit more up in the air, and maybe I get a bit more fortune sometimes.”
