An exquisite Lewis Ferguson strike and Sam Cosgrove penalty sealed an Aberdeen win over St Mirren in their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie.
Within seven minutes 20-year-old Ferguson had scored the goal that would eventually prove key for the away side.
Driving through the middle, the midfielder spun a shot with the outside of his foot beyond Vaclav Hladky.
From that point on, the home side were very much in the game but couldn’t find the quality needed to test Joe Lewis.
A long-distance shot from Jamie McGrath aside, the Dons were fairly comfortable in dealing with the home side’s threat.
Scott McKenna limped off with a hamstring injury in the second half to pose further injury woes for Derek McInnes.
Minutes after McKenna’s departure, Curtis Main thought he had doubled Aberdeen’s lead when he headed home from inside the box. However, the striker was correctly ruled to be office.
The away side did get that vital second goal though and it came through Sam Cosgrove in stoppage time, when the big striker converted from the spot to make it 2-0.
