Aberdeen 'prepared to go to tribunal' with Rangers over midfielder Connor Barron transfer

Aberdeen have insisted they are prepared to take Rangers to a tribunal if it means getting the best value for Connor Barron.

It was announced last Thursday that the 21-year-old midfielder joined the Ibrox side on a free transfer after his contract at Pittodrie expired.

The Scotland under-21 midfielder, who made over 50 first-team appearances for Aberdeen, said he was “delighted” to make the move and was pictured at Rangers Training Centre on Tuesday as pre-season officially started.

Because he came through their ranks, Aberdeen would have been due around £525,000 in compensation for Barron if he had signed for a club outside Scotland.

However, because the 21-year-old has moved to a fellow Scottish club, the two clubs must agree a fee.

But the compensation has yet to be agreed, and Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows has said the club are “fully prepared” to take the transfer to a tribunal if Rangers aren’t prepared to pay enough.

At a press conference on Tuesday, he said: “If there isn’t agreement between the two clubs then we are fully prepared to go to a tribunal.

“It is our job to get the best value for any player and we will try and do that with Connor Barron.

“Ideally, in all walks of life, we would like to avoid situations where you have to go to tribunals but if we have to we will.”
