Aberdeen reject bid from Bologna for teenage defender Calvin Ramsay

Aberdeen have knocked back a bid for Bologna for defender Calvin Ramsay – and Stephen Glass believes the teenager will be at the Dons beyond the transfer deadline.

Ramsay has been linked with other clubs since breaking into the Aberdeen first team and the highly-rated defender emerged as a target for Bologna, who already have Scot Aaron Hickey on the books and thriving in Serie A.

The Italian side tabled a bid that would have seen the Dons receive €1m up front, with an obligation to buy for a further €3.8m. That deal, which could have seen Aberdeen net a total £4m, doesn’t meet the Premiership club’s valuation and has been knocked back.

Speaking earlier on Friday, manager Stephen Glass was confident that Ramsay would still be part of his plans for the rest of the season.

“We’re still at the stage where I have not been told anything is imminent,” Glass said. “Whether there are or aren’t any bids in, it’s not close enough that it’s going to affect our team on Saturday.

“I think it (transfer speculation) has definitely affected him a touch. Anyone can see that. But we’ll get to Monday night and I think he’ll still be with us, and he’ll be ready to tackle the second part of the season.

“I’m not surprised it’s affected him a little bit. He’s only 18 and it’s the first time he’s been through this.

“But he’ll be ready to perform for us on Saturday, hopefully again Tuesday night, and hopefully for the rest of the season. He’ll be fine.”

One player who is set to depart Pittodrie is attacker Ryan Hedges. The 26-year-old is in the last six months of his contract and Aberdeen have negotiated a fee for him to move to Blackburn Rovers.

Hedges has travelled to undergo a medical at Rovers’ Brockhall training ground after a £200k plus-deal was agreed.
