Aberdeen sign Scotland Under-21 striker Fraser Hornby on loan

Aberdeen have sealed the signing of Fraser Hornby on loan from Ligue 1 side Reims until the end of the season.

The Scotland Under-21 striker comes into Derek McInnes’ Dons squad after the club sold Sam Cosgrove to Birmingham City for £2m.

Hornby moved from Northampton Town to Everton as a teenager and moved to Reims last summer but has only had limited game time in France. The 21-year-old, who has scored 10 times for Scotland Under-21s, will now look to make his mark on the Premiership between now and the summer.

Derek McInnes said that he was delighted to have completed the deal. He told the club’s website: “I’m very pleased to get Fraser in, a player we’ve monitored for a while.

“His club had other options for him, but Fraser made it clear he was keen to come to Aberdeen which pleases us no end and hopefully he can help us finish the season strongly.

“He’ll give us the goal threat and forward play we know he is capable of and at the same time we can give him some much-needed game time.

“The fact he knows some of the players here from the Scotland Under 21 set-up certainly helps matters and I am sure he will fit in seamlessly. We’re all really looking forward to working with him.”

Hornby goes straight into Aberdeen’s squad for their league clash with Livingston on Tuesday.
