Hibernian are in talks with Republic of Ireland international Aiden McGeady over a move to Easter Road for the winger.

McGeady is available as a free agent as he comes to the end of his contract at Sunderland and is exploring the possibility of reuniting with Hibs boss Lee Johnson after working under him at the Stadium of Light.

The parties are in discussions to make the 36-year-old the latest addition to Johnson’s squad as he puts his own mark on Hibs.

Johnson has spoken recently about how he enjoyed working with McGeady, though at the time he said there had been no formal move to sign the player.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Aiden as a footballer but also as a man,” he said.

“He is challenging at times but in the right way. He tests you as a coach and I don’t mind that, and he tests everybody around him

“I enjoy his opinions as long as they’re for the greater good of the team and they generally are.

“Of course me and him speak regularly anyway and there is an interest there but at the same time Aiden McGeady is a top player so there will be other interest.”

One player who looks to be heading out of Hibs this week is goalkeeper Matt Macey. The former Arsenal player is expected to complete a move to Luton Town.

The goalkeeper’s first team opportunities were likely to be restricted after Hibs signed former Scotland international David Marshall.
