Edinburgh City have announced the appointment of Alan Maybury as their interim manager until the end of the season.

The 43-year-old former Leeds, Hearts and Republic of Ireland defender takes charge of the cinch League Two promotion hopefuls following the sacking of ex-Scotland and Everton defender Gary Naysmith earlier this month.

Maybury has had coaching roles with Hibernian, Falkirk, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock, but this will be his first crack at management.

City, who finished second in each of their previous seasons, are currently fourth in the table and have won only two of their last seven matches. They have six games remaining to secure their play-off spot, starting with this Saturday’s trip to Elgin.
