Alfredo Morelos has returned to the Rangers squad and could feature at some stage during the game against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed that he is hopeful the Colombian talisman, who has been out injured since last season, will “play some minutes” as Rangers look to bounce back from their midweek defeat in Belgium.

The Glasgow club lost 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise and the manager stressed the need to put that result behind them against the newly promoted side at the weekend.

Speaking to Rangers TV he said: “We were all disappointed with the result and the performance, but we have the desire and hunger to turn it around and that starts against Kilmarnock.

“They are a team that has just come up from the Championship and they like to play good football, Derek McInnes is doing a great job there so this is a team that can make it really difficult, all teams in Scotland can.

“We need to improve on the ball and we need to improve from the things we didn’t do so well on Tuesday night, our positions, our speed of play, our movements, they will all have to improve against Kilmarnock.

“But I am confident that if we reach the standards I expect of the players then we should be fine.”

On the squad he revealed they are “looking good” and that he expects Morelos, who scored 18 goals last season despite a period out of injury, to have a play a part.

He said: “We are looking good, I think the biggest change will be that Alfredo is back in the squad, he has been training really hard for the past week with the team and we think he is ready to be in the squad for tomorrow and hopefully he can play some minutes as well.”
