Andy Halliday believes Lennon Miller is one of the best young talents he’s played alongside but says the teenage midfielder is lucky to be at a club like Motherwell.

Miller has become a key player with the Fir Park side after breaking into the first team two seasons ago, and the 18-year-old has been tipped as the next young talent to make a move to a big club.

Halliday has had the benefit of seeing the midfielder working to improve every day and believes his mentality is as impressive as his ability with a ball.

“You don’t want younger players to get too carried away, but that’s something I don’t even worry about with Lennon,” Halliday said. “He’s so humble, he’s so grounded and so down to earth.

“No matter the headlines and the praise that he gets, deservedly so and I saw he even scored his first goal for Scotland Under-21s recently, he still comes in and he’s the same boy. He still trains the exact same.”

Having played for Middlesbrough, Rangers and Hearts among others, the experienced midfielder has seen plenty of developing players but Halliday puts Miller in with the best he’s seen.

“He’s certainly right up there,” he said. “I’ve been lucky to play with a few talented youngsters but I just look at Lennon and think he’s got everything.

“To be honest, it’s not even just about being a young player, he’s one of our best players and he has been for a couple of seasons now.”

Though impressed by what Miller has brought to the Motherwell side, Halliday did stress that the youngster had been in the perfect place to thrive.

He said: “I think we’re very, very lucky to have him, but I’ve said it before and Lennon knows it, he’s also very lucky to have Motherwell.

“Motherwell gave him the opportunity he’s had at 16 years old and he’s lucky to have a manager in Stuart Kettlewell who will keep him in the team, let him have a run of games and allow him to make mistakes that will let him get better.

“So I think it works both ways. It’s been a relationship that’s been good for everyone involved.”
